Moments
"We do not remember days, we remember moments."- Cesare Pavese
My kids, standing at the window, watching the rain. It's the little things that melt your heart. It's the little things that make you want to keep them this age forever, only to know in your heart they will be in school one day (daughter starts prek next week... ::sniffle::), and then high school, and then college, and then get married and have kids of their own. But it's these seemingly small moments that I'll remember. Standing in the window, watching the raindrops fall outside. When they were little, and would still run up to me and want to snuggle when they were scared. When my daughter would ask, 'can you sleep by me?'
Kids have their times of craziness and defiance, and as a parent you would love to just bring out that bottle of wine at 1pm and tell them it's bedtime. Then drink said bottle of wine and bingewatch Netflix for the rest of the day (no judgement if you've done this, you know you've at least thought about it once!). But then you remember those little moments, and hug them tighter. Knowing that one day they will head of to college, be on their own, and you'll wish for the little moments back. So you hug them even tighter when they are driving you crazy, and tell them not to grow up. It would be gerat if they would listen to you sometimes, but not to grow up. At least not too fast. Because even though you always remember the little moments, it's nice to be able to experience them in the moment.
This is one reason photography is so important to me. I love being able to capture those little moments. The ones that sometimes you look past now, but a few years down the line you look at the photos and remember exactly how you felt in that moment. You have that moment frozen in time, and you never forget. You have those moments to cherish for a lifetime, and they can be shared beyond your lifetime as well.
